OCCT SHOW CHIORS:
Musical Theater Performance, Ages 7 - 11
Mondays / 4:00-5:30pm / October 17 - December 12 / $75 (SHOWCASE PERFORMANCE DECEMBER 16 OR 17 - TBA) Launch a rising star with this exciting introduction to the basic elements of musical theater! Budding performers will learn, rehearse and present popular Broadway show tunes and pop songs in a Glee-style showcase. Children will learn fundamental vocal technique and basic dance steps and will be taught how to sing songs with separate vocal parts and simple harmonies. Improvisatory theater games and movement exercises will ignite your child's imagination, inspiring confidence and self-expression while nurturing a love of the creative arts. All experience levels welcome.
Musical Theatre Performance, Ages 12 - 18 Glee fans, take note! Be a part of an exciting show choir inspired by the hit TV series. Learn, rehearse and perform Broadway showstoppers and your favorite pop songs in an energetic showcase. Improve musical performance skills as you learn basic vocal and choral singing techniques. Build a repertoire of dance steps as you prepare and perform simple choreography. Have fun playing theater games and exercises that spur creativity and the ability to think on your feet. Experience the thrill of a cheering audience! All levels welcome.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
SUSAN HARRIS
Susan Harris began her professional singing, dancing, and acting career on the East Coast, and has performed in numerous musicals and operas for over twenty-five years, including title roles in Evita and Kiss Me, Kate and various other leads. She has a Bachelor's degree in Music from North Carolina School of the Arts and a Master's from Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In addition to teaching voice, Susan has choreographed and served as musical director for many productions, among them, Baby, Damn Yankees, and Anything Goes. Since moving to Portland in 2005, she has performed with such prominent local groups as the Portland Cello Project, Opera Theater Oregon, the Flash Choir, and The Builders and the Butchers, as well as in duet with Thomas Lauderdale of Pink Martini; has collaborated with noted experimental musicians such as Sarah Dougher, Ethan Rose, Grouper, Japanther, and Seth Nehil; and has appeared at such venues as the Aladdin Theater, the Hollywood Theatre, Loveland, Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center and Seattle's Triple Door nightclub, as well as making several appearances in Portland's T:BA Festival. |
